I like St. Patrick's Day; you can make it out to be a pretty fun day, but it never seems to get the same attention other holidays do. Here are a few ideas to make the day memorable. If I had the luxury of any free time this week, maybe we'd enjoy some lime Italian sodas, this, or a batch of these. You could also cut sandwiches into shamrock shapes with a cookie cutter.
Traditions in our family:
I remember when we were growing up, my Dad would get us kids green Mars candy bars, and for me and mom, green carnations (delivered by a leprechaun to the refrigerator for us to find in the morning).
In my sister in law's family, a leprechaun visits every year on St. Patrick's Day morning with bagels, and cream cheese and milk (tinted green).
Here in Las Vegas, my Aunt and Uncle make a big deal out of the holiday and invite us over each year for an amazing dinner and a funny movie, something Irish of course. My Aunt has the whole house decorated and plays Celtic music, and serves Irish cheese and hors d'oeuvres for appetizers, then a full meal with a specially brined corned beef from Reno, cabbage, some type of potato (perhaps boiled and tossed with herbs, or a delicious soup), Irish soda bread (yum!), and a raspberry fool and homemade shortbread for dessert - delish! If you haven't seen this movie, rent it this year to enjoy on the holiday, it's funny AND Irish!
Do you have any St. Patrick's Day traditions?

I love St. Patrick's Day! I'm not quite sure why, but I get so excited for it. Maybe it's the anticipation of the leprechaun. Maybe it's just my Irish blood shining through. Jeff keeps trying to convince me Columbus Day is a better holiday. I disagree.
Happy St. Patrick's Day!
we're having a big party with 3 other families this year. they're all coming to our house-i've never made corned beef or anything, so i'm a bit nervous! i totally should've thought of italian sodas!! and we just watched that movie two weeks ago-it was really funny! (i'm TOTALLY planning on still getting my MSW as soon as dave starts residency)
