Black Tie Affair

Having a few items in my closet appropriate for black tie and other formal events has become necessary. With Kimberly's help (my cutest cousin), I've narrowed it down and I think we have a few winners. I'll need to wear a couple of these the first two weeks of December.

1. A great dress. What do you think of this? I need something more formal also - any ideas? It can be awfully hard to find something modest, stylish, AND age appropriate (meaning it doesn't scream prom or 'mother of the bride'). LOVE this, and this. The first, I'm just not sure about the neckline, and the second, just didn't work for me when I tried it on.

2. Now for option 2, a black satin stretch pencil skirt (very dressy), that hits just below the knee. (However, I did come across this the other day...which do you like best)? I thought I could pair either skirt with lots of different things on top for endless outfits. Like these...and perhaps a bright satin sash tied in a bow around the waist with the cardigan. Have any other great ideas?

those tops with the pencil skirt are great. the sequin skirt is fun, too, but not quite as versatile. There are some other shirt-dress styles at Nordstrom like the one you linked. With fun hair and youthful accessories I think they are possibilities. You will look gorgeous no matter what.

I love the Donna Rico (3/4 sleeve shirt dress), too bad you said it didn't really work on you, huh? The very first one (blue/black) is really cool too, if it works on you! I think the first pictured top with a pencil skirt would be great, it looks the most formal. More than the cardigan, which is pretty but not quite as much of a "black tie" feel with it. I'm not a huge fan of the Express sequin skirt- I don't think that high waist look would work on your height, and it'd be hard to find tops to work with it, I think. Hope you have fun shopping! You'll make something work!

I love them all. Although I am sort of glad to not be in your predicament. I HATE shopping for clothes! Check that, I hate clothes shopping for ME! The girls I can handle, and it's actually fun.

I vote for the first dress. If you need help making it more "modest" let me know I can help with that!

The brown one was my favorite too, seems to be everyone else's fave also, maybe I'll try it on again before I ship it back...
