Mom's frosted sugar cookies (soft and delicious, the best ever)!
Mix together 3 C flour, 1 C sugar, 1 tsp each of salt, baking soda and baking powder
Cut in 1 C shortening until mixture resembles coarse meal
Blend in: 2 eggs, 4 Tbl milk, and 2 tsp vanilla
Roll out on floured surface to 1/4" thick, cut into shapes and place on cookie sheet
Bake to light brown at 400* 6-8 minutes
Frosting: Mix together 1/2 cube melted butter, 1 tsp vanilla, 3 Tbl milk, powdered sugar to desired consistency and, a few drops of red food coloring (to make the frosting pink).
